Main Ingredients
- 4–6 ounces thinly sliced beef prosciutto
- Fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine), drained
- 20–25 medium-sized fresh basil leaves
- 10–15 cherry or grape tomatoes, halved (optional)
For Drizzling and Seasoning
- Good quality olive oil, for drizzling
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
- Drain the Mozzarella: Drain your fresh mozzarella balls very well by spreading them on a paper towel-lined plate and gently patting them dry to remove excess moisture.
- Prepare the Basil and Tomatoes: Gently wash fresh basil leaves and pat them dry completely. If using, wash cherry or grape tomatoes and halve them lengthwise.
- Assemble the Base: Lay a slice of beef prosciutto flat on a clean surface and place one drained mozzarella ball or half a bocconcini near one end of the slice.
- Add Basil: Place a fresh basil leaf directly on top of the mozzarella ball.
- Add Tomato (Optional): Place one halved cherry or grape tomato cut-side down against the mozzarella and basil, if included.
- Roll the Bite: Carefully but firmly roll the beef prosciutto around the mozzarella, basil, and tomato to form a compact bite-sized wrap.
- Secure Each Bite: For extra security, thread a small decorative toothpick or skewer through the center of each bite to hold everything together.
- Arrange on Platter: Place the assembled bites neatly on a serving platter as you finish each one.
- Final Touches: Just before serving, drizzle a good quality olive oil over all the bites, then generously drizzle with balsamic glaze and lightly dust with freshly ground black pepper.
Notes
- Ensure mozzarella balls are well drained to prevent sogginess.
- Beef prosciutto slices can be substituted with other dry-cured beef meats if preferred.
- Cherry tomatoes are optional but add a burst of fresh sweetness and color.
- Serve immediately after drizzling to keep prosciutto from getting soggy.
- These bites can be prepared a few hours ahead but add olive oil and balsamic glaze just before serving.
- Use toothpicks or small skewers for easy serving and eating.
