This Homemade Microwave Popcorn recipe allows you to make a quick, easy, and healthy snack using simple ingredients and a paper bag in your microwave, avoiding the added chemicals found in store-bought microwave popcorn bags.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup popcorn kernels
  • Olive oil spray
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the popcorn kernels: Place ¼ cup of dry popcorn kernels into a small paper bag ensuring the bag contains no staples or any metal parts.
  2. Fold and microwave: Fold the paper bag over a few times to close it securely. Place the bag upright in the microwave and cook on high for 2-3 minutes. Listen carefully and stop the microwave when the popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops to prevent burning.
  3. Season the popcorn: Carefully open the bag and pour the popcorn into a bowl. Lightly spritz with olive oil spray, then sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Toss or stir well to evenly coat the popcorn with the seasoning.
  4. Serve and store: Enjoy the popcorn immediately. Save the paper bag for making another batch later to reduce waste.

Notes

  • Make sure the paper bag is microwave-safe and free of staples or metal to avoid sparks.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
  • The popping time may vary depending on your microwave’s wattage.
  • Do not leave the microwave unattended while popping to prevent burning.
  • Leftover unpopped kernels are normal and can be discarded or saved for the next batch.
