For the Coffee Base
- 2 cups hot water
- 2 tablespoons sugar (or maple syrup)
- 2 cups brewed coffee
- 2 oz. Irish whiskey
For the Cream Topping
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- Chocolate shavings (for garnish)
- Beat the cream: In a chilled mixing bowl, pour the heavy cream and add a teaspoon of sugar if desired. Whisk the cream until soft peaks form, ensuring it is still soft and not fully stiff. Set aside.
- Warm the mugs: Fill two glass coffee mugs with hot water, letting them sit for 2-3 minutes to warm the glasses. Afterward, pour out the water, which helps keep the coffee hot longer.
- Add the sweetener: Place 1 tablespoon of sugar or maple syrup into each warmed mug.
- Prepare the coffee mixture: Pour hot brewed coffee into each mug over the sweetener and stir thoroughly to dissolve the sugar completely.
- Add the whiskey: Pour 1 oz. of Irish whiskey into each mug and stir gently to combine all ingredients.
- Serve: Carefully float the softly whipped cream on top of each coffee by pouring it over the back of a spoon so it rests on the surface. Garnish with chocolate shavings and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use freshly brewed strong coffee for the best flavor.
- Chilling the mixing bowl before whipping cream helps achieve the perfect consistency faster.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of sugar or substitute maple syrup for a different flavor profile.
- To float the cream well, pour it gently over the back of a spoon to prevent it from mixing with the coffee.
- This recipe serves two and is ideal for sharing.
