Ingredients

Scale

For the Danish:

  • 1 package of King Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 can (8 oz) crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1/2 cup strawberries, sliced

For the Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the King Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally to create a top and bottom layer. Place the bottom layer in a greased baking dish to serve as the base for the cheesecake filling.
  2. Make the Cheesecake Filling: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the sugar, egg, and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until the mixture is well combined and creamy, forming the cheesecake filling.
  3. Assemble the Danish: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the bottom layer of the rolls in the baking dish. Then sprinkle the drained crushed pineapple evenly over the cream cheese layer. Place the top layer of the rolls over this pineapple and cream cheese mixture to cover.
  4. Bake the Danish: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheesecake filling is set. After baking, remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.
  5. Prepare the Glaze: In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until the glaze is smooth and adjust the milk quantity to achieve a drizzle-able consistency.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Drizzle the glaze over the warm Danish, then top with sliced strawberries and additional pineapple if desired. Cut into squares and serve either warm or at room temperature for a delicious treat.

Notes

  • Make sure the cream cheese is softened to ensure a smooth filling.
  • Drain the crushed pineapple well to avoid a soggy Danish.
  • You can adjust the sweetness of the glaze by adding more or less powdered sugar.
  • Use fresh strawberries for the best flavor and texture in the garnish.
  • This dish is best served fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator and gently reheated before serving.
