Main Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Vegetables
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
Other Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 8 slices provolone cheese (4 for filling, 4 for topping)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the meatloaf.
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced green bell pepper and onion, sautéing for about 5 minutes until they become soft and fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Mix Meatloaf Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly but gently to keep the meatloaf tender.
- Form Meatloaf Base: Press half of the meat mixture evenly into the bottom of a loaf pan, creating a solid base for layering.
- Add Cheese and Vegetables: Layer 4 slices of provolone cheese over the meat base, then spread the sautéed peppers and onions evenly on top of the cheese.
- Complete Meatloaf: Cover the filling with the remaining meat mixture, pressing gently to seal and smooth the top edges.
- Bake: Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes. In the last 5 minutes of baking, lay the remaining 4 slices of provolone cheese on top and continue baking until the cheese melts and bubbles.
- Rest and Garnish: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired for added flavor and color.
Notes
- Make sure not to overmix the meat to keep the loaf tender.
- Allow the meatloaf to rest before slicing to help it hold its shape.
- You can substitute provolone with mozzarella or cheddar cheese if preferred.
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture or sautéed vegetables.
- Use fresh or dried parsley for garnish depending on availability.
