Sloppy Joe Mixture
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
To Serve
- Sweet potato fries (store-bought or homemade)
- Pickle chips for garnish
- Cook the ground beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, for about 10 minutes until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease from the pan to keep the mixture from being too greasy.
- Sauté vegetables: Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet along with the diced onions and green bell peppers. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the onions become soft and translucent. Then, add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until aromatic but not burnt.
- Add the sauce components: Stir in the yellow mustard, ketchup, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, kosher salt, freshly cracked black pepper, and chili powder. Mix everything thoroughly so that the flavors meld together and the meat mixture becomes well coated.
- Prepare serving base: Warm your sweet potato fries according to package instructions or prepare homemade fries until crispy and golden brown as your bowl base.
- Assemble the bowls: Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture generously over the sweet potato fries. Garnish with pickle chips for a tangy, crunchy contrast. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein option.
- Adjust chili powder to taste for more or less heat.
- For gluten-free option, ensure the soy sauce is gluten-free tamari.
- Sweet potato fries can be roasted or air-fried for a healthier alternative.
- Pickle chips add a nice acidity that balances the richness of the beef mixture.
